At The Happy Print Hub, we love helping you turn your favourite memories into beautiful, personalised photo products. But here’s the thing: even the best printer in the world can’t fix a blurry or low-quality image.
So if you’ve ever asked, “Why do my photos look blurry or pixelated?” — this blog is for you!
The Golden Rule: Your Print Is Only as Good as Your Image
We print exactly what you upload. That means:
- If your image is crisp and high-resolution — it will print beautifully.
- If your image is blurry, pixelated, or heavily cropped — it will print the same way.
Smartphone Photos vs. Screenshots – What’s the Difference?
Most modern smartphones (iPhones, Samsung, Google Pixel, etc.) take amazing photos. When you upload the original image straight from your camera roll, it’s often:
- Around 2MB to 6MB in size
- Between 3000 x 4000 pixels in resolution
- Perfect for printing — even at large sizes
But if you upload a:
- Screenshot
- Image saved from Facebook or Instagram
- Photo received via Messenger or WhatsApp
…it’s likely compressed or resized. These files are usually only 100KB to 500KB — way too small for quality printing. They may look fine on screen, but once printed, the blur becomes obvious.
What we’re looking for: Several megabytes (MB) — not just a few kilobytes (KB).
What Size Should My Photo Be?
For products like our 10cm rectangles, we recommend:
- Minimum size: 1200 x 1800 pixels
- Ideal file size: 1MB – 5MB (JPEG or PNG)
- From your phone? Perfect — just make sure it's the original file
Tip: Don’t upload screenshots or social media images — always use the original from your phone or camera.
Cropping = Smaller Image = Lower Quality
This is a big one. If you crop your image a lot in our online editor (or elsewhere), you’re shrinking the file and removing detail. Even if it looks okay on your screen, it may print pixelated or soft — especially at larger sizes.
For example:
- Original image: 1720KB (approx. 1.7MB)
- Cropped version: 488KB
- Result: Blurry and not suitable for print
We Can’t Fix It After It’s Printed
We don’t apply filters or “fix” your image files. What you upload is exactly what gets printed — including any cropping, resolution loss, or blurriness.
Because of this, we do not offer refunds for low-quality images submitted by the customer.
How to Get the Best Results
- Upload the original image directly from your phone or camera
- Avoid screenshots or photos downloaded from Facebook or Instagram
- Don’t crop too tightly in the editor
- Use the largest version of the image you have
- Use a quality smartphone or camera — even your iPhone or Samsung is perfect
